1872 Society Legacy Scholarship
The 1872 Legacy Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor and commemorates the one hundred thirty-fifth anniversary of the first fraternity founded at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1872, the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity came to UIUC, and started a movement that has changed and made an impact on this campus every year since. For more than a century, fraternity men have emerged on campus with the ideals of brotherhood and camaraderie so coveted by their founders. Those founders saw the wisdom in our fraternal bonds and the endless benefits that those relationships would bring and thus an elaborate fraternal history has been created and will continue. Since the recognition of the first fraternity on campus, the Interfraternity Council has grown to more than forty fraternities, and more than 3,200 young men amass one of the largest fraternity system in the country.
Each fraternity is based on a tradition to grow its members by developing their potential to be better students, brothers, and sons. With this scholarship, it is the goal of our council to use these funds to help in advancing the potential of future leaders in the fraternity system and in the fraternal community. These individuals should be involved in the fraternity and sorority community, achieve high academic standards, serve their community, and show potential as a future leader committed to excellence. As a future leader, he should encourage friendship, leadership, scholarship, service, and social advancement while appreciating the diversity of our member organizations. It is the hope of the Interfraternity Council Executive Board to continue to provide opportunities such as this scholarship to ensure the development of fraternity men and a continued tradition of excellence in the fraternal community at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Willard Broom (Scholarship) Award
Willard Broom came to the University of Illinois first as a student member of the class of 1972. During his student years, he was an active member of FarmHouse Fraternity and was involved in the Student Speaker Bureau. He started the very first Quad Day on our campus. All of his involvement as an undergraduate student contributed to his becoming Assistant Dean of Student Programs and Services in 1972 upon graduation.
Willard advised the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils, Illini Guides, and numerous other student groups. He directed summer and fall new student orientation. He began the first leadership conference at Allerton. He later served as Director of Student Activities, reaching out to students in many respects with responsibility for New Student Orientation, Fraternities & Sororities, the Afro-American Cultural Program (now the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center), La Casa Cultural Latina, Mom’s and Dad’s Associations, Certified Housing, and the Student Organization Resource Fee Board.
Because of Willard's contributions and dedication to our campus and his continued love and dedication for the fraternal community, the Panhellenic Council recognize all of his accomplishments through the establishment of an endowment fund which awards a scholarship to a junior woman who has exemplified Willard's dedication to the fraternal community.
