The Chapter Presidents' Leadership Academy (CPLA) is an educational program which provides all fraternity and sorority presidents with valuable information, leadership training, and networking opportunities. Participants will meet the presidents from all fraternities and sororities at Illinois along with Fraternity & Sorority Affairs staff members who support the community.

CPLA typically takes place in late January or early February. An email communication will be sent to all chapters regarding registration toward the end of the fall semester.

It is an expectation of the office for all chapter presidents to attend the academy. Only chapter presidents will be allowed to attend. No substitutes will be allowed as this is an opportunity for chapter presidents to interact with one another.

For questions regarding the Chapter Presidents' Leadership Academy, please contact Andrew Hohn, Senior Associate Director for Fraternity & Sorority Affairs at ahohn@illinois.edu.

Emerging leaders, a student-run, day-long mini leadership retreat, provides current student leaders in the fraternity and sorority community the opportunity to implement theory to practices while educating leaders of tomorrow. Combining the work of Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner with personal experiences, Emerging Leaders helps young members of our fraternity and sorority community to understand how they function as a leader in a safe and supportive environment.

The program involves best practices as well as provides participants with examples of activities which can be used to explore leadership within their fellow chapter brothers/sisters.

Sponsored by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils, all fraternity and sorority members are welcome and encouraged to register and participate. Information regarding the program is shared with chapters through their respective councils during the fall semester.

For questions regarding Emerging Leaders, please contact Amanda Wahba, Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs at wahba3@illinois.edu.

A long-standing tradition on the Urbana-Champaign campus of Illinois, Quad Day exposes students to the diverse opportunities available for involvement in the campus community, particularly through student organizations. As Registered Student Organizations, our fraternities and sororities are encouraged to participate in this fun event. With such a large number of fraternal organizations participating each year, our chapters can be found on the South Quad between Foellinger Auditorium and the Undergraduate Library.

For information about Quad Day, please visit Student Engagement.

For questions regarding Quad Day (specific to social fraternities and sororities), please contact Angeline Jones, Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs at atjones5@illinois.edu.

Stride for Survivors is an event designed to raise awareness within the fraternity and sorority community on the topic of gender violence and sexual assault. The program takes place in two phases. The first part, an educational program, takes place in a classroom setting on campus. Immediately following the educational program is a walk which occurs on the Main Quad of campus. While there may be limited seating during the educational program due to space limitations, the walk is open to any and all students.

Stride for Survivors is a program which coincides with the campus-wide events offered during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, is open to all students and is coordinated by representatives from the Black Greek, Interfraternity, Panhellenic and United Greek Councils.

The Fraternity & Sorority Affairs staff dedicates time to work with all of our organizations. It is an expectation each chapter president meet with their Fraternity & Sorority Affairs Staff Liaison once a semester to check-in regarding chapter administration and operations.

Chapter Presidents are encouraged to use this time as an opportunity to gain advice in the following areas:

  • Administration
  • Leadership Development
  • Operations
  • Recruitment
  • Service (Community Service & Philanthropy)

See which staff member has been assigned to serve as your Staff Liaison (pdf) for the year.

The Fraternity & Sorority Affairs staff works closely with inter/national staff and volunteers to support the operation and administration of its chapters. We welcome any and all consultant and national officer visits.

During a consultant visit, we are more than happy to discuss items pertaining to the council in which the chapter maintains membership and the university. More specifically, we will typically review academics, membership/recruitment.

Should the consultant or national officer request any documentation not traditionally provided during a visit, we ask you please contact the individual staff member with whom you plan to visit to ensure amble time is provided to pull the documentation together.

To schedule a visit with a staff member, please contact Michelle Hart at moutlaw@illinois.edu or call (217) 333-7062. To best accommodate all schedules, we request at least two weeks notice prior to any visit.

Not sure who you should schedule a time to meet with while on campus? See which staff member advises each chapter by getting the complete staff liaison list (pdf).

Each of the four governing councils: Black Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and the United Greek Council have a member of the staff within Fraternity & Sorority Affairs who works with the elected officers as their council advisor.

The role of the council advisor is to provide guidance on council operations, administration and planning. While the management and operations of the council are the responsibility of the elected/appointed officers for the respective council, the advisor plays a key role in guiding those decisions based on best practice, knowledge of policies and laws that govern the councils and organizational purpose. Advisors also provide historical perspectives which many undergraduates may not have. The advisor will meet individually and as a group with the council officers and may attend relevant business meetings or programs in support of the organization.

Below is a listing of council advisors:

  • Black Greek Council: Angeline Jones
  • Interfraternity Council: Amanda Wahba
  • Panhellenic Council: Angeline Jones
  • United Greek Council: Amanda Wahba

To schedule a meeting with your liaison, please contact Michelle Hart, Office Manager for Fraternity & Sorority Affairs at moutlaw@illinois.edu or call (217) 333-7062.
