The staff of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs has recognized areas for growth and advancement in making the fraternity and sorority community at Illinois more welcoming, inclusive, accepting, and diverse.

The 6 learning outcomes are:

1. Programming & Training

Students will increase awareness, knowledge, and skills to identify and address social issues.

2. Visibility

FSA will Increase exposure of culturally based organizations in order to elevate campus awareness of these groups.

3. Councils

Staff of FSA will empower governing councils to identify and address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

4. Advisors

Chapter advisors will increase awareness and knowledge to assist students in identifying and addressing social issues.

5. Staff

Staff will increase their personal cultural competency to better understand and support students.

6. Administrative

Staff will gain a better understanding of the community in order to work towards more equitable practices.

Goals and Objectives

Programming & Training

  • FSA will utilize a portion of its budget to provide education and training to culturally based organizations in order to assist with leadership development.
  • FSA will work alongside with staff from the Diversity and Social Justice Education to provide a workshop series. Topics to be identified at a later time.
  • Educational training based on recruitment of a diverse membership will be explored.
  • FSA will dedicate a section of its weekly newsletter to diversity and social justice educational opportunities that exist on campus.

Visibility

  • FSA will provide a brochure about culturally based organizations represented on the campus.
  • FSA will create a new portion of the website dedicated to culturally based organizations and the process to join.
  • FSA will provide an annual photo shoot to provide marketing photos for the culturally based councils to help advertise their organizations.
  • FSA will educate chapters on how to utilize Campus Belonging Resources.
  • Staff will work to have a larger presence at events on campus to ensure that we are seen as a supportive unit.

Councils

  • FSA will incorporate diversity into the training provided at the council leaders retreat.
  • FSA staff will work with each council to encourage them to seek educational opportunities for their membership.
  • FSA will review data with council leaders about the average chapter education reported on the semester report.
  • FSA will review the most recent report on council demographics with the governing councils.

Advisors

  • FSA will meet with advisors of culturally based organizations at least once a semester to ensure a solid and healthy relationship.
  • FSA will include aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion education during semester meetings.

FSA Staff

  • Each staff member will develop a personal training or development goal related to the topic.
  • The staff will participate in one staff development opportunity (book club, etc).
  • Council Advisors of the Black Greek Council and the United Greek Council will establish regular semesterly meetings with representatives from BNAAC, AACC, and LaCasa in effort to build stronger relationships.

Administrative

  • Every three years the FSA staff will evaluate the demographics of the FS community to the larger campus data.
  • FSA Staff will audit all current expectations to ensure they are applicable and equitable.
  • FSA will review current available data from the semester report on how many chapters are providing education the topic of diversity.
  • FSA will add an officer position to the FSA Roster system allowing chapters to identify their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion officer.
